To Joy.

Imagine giving birth on Christmas day during the height of a global pandemic.

TJ, my oldest baker, was born on one of the most joyful days of the year. It snowed, rained, and had bright sunshine all in one long day. I hadn’t been baking in this capacity for a few years now but knew her newborn shoot had to feature something baking related. Why? Because her mama is a baker (how Deep!)

fast forward but not too much… She’ll be three this christmas and has already baked a pie and a few poundcakes. She knows how to hold the bowl while I pour and knows the oven is “no touch/too hot.” If she sees my mixer out she puts trolls on hold! Her attention span and egg cracking abilities are 3/10, but her sweet “can I make with you?” warms me over every time. it’s the excitement to learn the art of baking for me. This is exactly how I began with my mom. TJ’s a natural.

how could i not get back in the kitchen? you see parents push their passsions & dreams on their children all the time. again, i wasn’t even in the kitchen like that. after 15 years, running a business simply wasn’t enjoyable for me anymore. but, the business and baking are two different things, and I never stopped my craft- always breaking out the mixer here and there. slowly, i began saying yes to taking orders again… a6 dozen cupcakes for a women’s day celebration, 4 down mini apple pies for a baby shower. Recent holiday poundcakes for family dinner. TJ helped me with all of it, but it was her presence that made it fun for me.

I had no idea i’d be writing my first blog on my first website to my firstborn child, but to my TJ, thank you for reviving the joy of baking in your mommy’s heart!
